DNP WCM2 AirPrint Printer Server Wireless Connect Module

The WCM2 from DNP is a Wireless Connect Module that allows you to connect DNP printers for universal printing. For example, with AirPrint on iPhone, iPad, and macOS. Also, for Android 9 and newer, there is built-in support without the need to download an external app. On Windows 10 and newer, you can also print from all programs to the DNP printer. The WCM2 is very compact and weighs only 64 grams.

How it works in practice:

  • Connect the WCM2 to the USB port of the printer using the provided cable. Turn on the printer.
  • Power the WCM2 using the provided USB cable or power adapter.
  • The WCM2 emits its own Wi-Fi signal. All devices connecting to it have wireless access to the printer(s). Prefer wired connection? Use your device's Ethernet port. On iPads, you can print wired via a Belkin Ethernet adapter (not included).

Printing with 2 printers simultaneously

The WCM2 has 2 free USB ports at the back. You can connect 1 or 2 printers simultaneously. Both printers will be visible on the device you use for printing photos. For each printer, you can choose a paper size, and then you can print from different devices simultaneously.

Internet connection via WCM2

Often, it's desirable to have an internet connection while printing from your device. This can be done both wired and wirelessly. If you prefer a wired connection, connect a UTP cable to the WCM2. The internet signal from the UTP cable will then be available for devices connected to the WCM2 via Wi-Fi. You can also connect wirelessly. In this case, the WCM2 will connect wirelessly to an existing Wi-Fi network, and then it will create its own Wi-Fi network (with a different SSID). To set this up, log in to the WCM2 configuration page (see last paragraph).

Power supply for WCM2

During use, power the WCM2 through the built-in micro-USB port. You can do this by using the provided power adapter (EU) or by connecting the provided USB cable to a USB port on a computer, laptop, or power bank. If you are using the QW410 printer, connect the WCM2 to the built-in USB output of the QW410. This way, the WCM2 will receive power from the QW410.

Printing via the browser with WCM2

In addition to WCM2 support for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Android, and Windows, you can also print from any other device in the browser. To do this, the device needs to connect to the Wi-Fi network of the WCM2, and then you open the website '192.168.4.1/print' in the browser. From here, you can choose and print a photo of your choice in the desired format.

Passport photos with WCM2

For passport photos, it's crucial that the dimensions are correct, both for the photo itself and the head. Since the WCM2 informs the computer that it is printing on A4/Letter size, printing passport photos is a bit different. Export the photo from the passport photo program (e.g., ID Photos Pro) as a 10x15 cm file. Then print the passport photo from Windows; right-click > print. This way, the size will be correct, and the passport photos won't be too small.

Photobooths and other apps with WCM2

Many apps are suitable for the WCM2. For photobooths, Apple's AirPrint is often used, with the WCM2 serving as a reliable link between the DNP printer and the iPad. The following iPad apps support AirPrint:

• Curator PixBooth 2
• Luma Booth
• Simple Booth Halo
• Simple Booth Halo 2
• SnapPic Booth
• Salsa Booth
• Photo Media Booth
• Babeland Photo
• Mini Photo Booth
• Darkroom Booth for iPad

No guarantee is provided for future compatibility, reliability, and availability of these apps.

Other options for WCM2

There are various other options and settings for the WCM2. Below is a list of the most commonly used ones:

Startup print

When you turn on the WCM2, it takes a maximum of 90 seconds before the device is ready for use. Then, it automatically prints a test print on one of the connected printers. You can optionally disable this via the menu.

Adjust Wi-Fi details

By default, you connect to the Wi-Fi network that starts with 'DNPWCM'. Via the menu, you can change the Wi-Fi name and its corresponding password.

Connecting multiple devices

At least 5 devices can simultaneously connect to the WCM2 and send photos. The maximum recommended distance between your device and the WCM2 is 10 meters. You can extend this range with a USB antenna.

Checking the number of prints

On the start screen in the browser, you can see at a glance the size of the inserted media and the remaining number of prints for the connected printer(s).

Applications of WCM2

The WCM2 is the ideal link between a DNP printer (RX1HS, DS620, DS820, QW410, DS40, DS80) and computer/tablet/smartphone for photobooths, printing photos on photo paper in business networks, wirelessly forwarding print orders for passport photo installations, and many other applications. Due to its compatibility with Windows, macOS, iOS, iPadOS, and Android, the WCM2 can be universally used for various printing applications.
