Kowa Twist-Up Locker

For best digiscoping results with a smartphone, it is often essential to keep the Twist Up of the eyepiece down to create a proper distance between the camera lens and the eyepiece. Failure to use the correct eye relief can drastically reduce digiscoping results. Resulting in increased vignetting.

Applying eye relief removes this negative effect, allowing you to take the most beautiful detail photos at a distance. This correct eye relief depends heavily on the individual lens of the smartphone.
2 rings are supplied, one thicker and one thinner to achieve a total of 3 different eye distances.

Key features

  • The perfect accessory for smartphone digiscoping.
  • It allows you to use the eye relief of your eyepiece cap and still take landscape shots with your smartphone.
  • The Twist-Up Locker prevents the eye relief hood from slipping when heavy smartphones are attached to the eyepiece.

In practice

The biggest problem smartphone users face when adjusting eye relief on the eyepiece is that the weight of the smartphone and adapter puts increased pressure on the Twist-Up. This causes the Twist-Up to slide back to its default position. To counter this problem, digiscopers must shoot in portrait (vertical) mode, meaning landscape images and video are not possible. Recording video in vertical mode is particularly limiting and makes playback on televisions and other devices disappointing.

These Twist-Up Locker rings offer the perfect solution by locking the eye cup in the desired position. This allows even large smartphones to easily record photos and/or videos in landscape format without having to manually hold the adapter in position to prevent slipping. The Twist-Up Locker is designed for the eyepieces of the TSN-99/88/66 and 880/770 spotting scope series.
